Are you Able?

12 July 2024

George Muranyi, the veteran keyboardist from Out Of My Hair, sat back to reminisce about his time teaming up with techno DJ "DJ Able" on some of the most forgettable tracks of the past decade. Collaborations like Your Love, Get Up, and Out Of My Head showcased George's versatility as a musician and his willingness to push boundaries.

While he may not be a big fan of the techno genre, George had immense respect for DJ Able's programming skills and his ability to craft infectious dance tracks. "I don't think of techno as music, but Able was a genius behind the decks," George admits. "Still, some of his stuff can be a bit... repetitive." He chuckles and winks.

George's adventures with DJ Able were legendary to say the least. "Let's just say Able's parties were a real treat," George laughs. "Free drinks loosened up the girls. They were all of age, I think. People offering you..." He catches himself, and smiles, thinking better of sharing details. The parties were wild, and George was always the good boy. "I behaved myself and only had a few too many margaritas."

As it turns out, George's foray into the world of techno was just a brief detour from his main musical path. Collaborations with DJs like Able and later DJ Spen stretched between 2014 and 2017, during which George continued to hone his skills as a keyboardist. "I learned so much from Able about the art of creating a killer beat," George says with a grin. "And who knows, maybe one day I'll even master the art of techno."

Despite his reservations about the genre itself, George remains grateful for the experience and the opportunities that came with it. "At the end of the day, it's all about creating something that gets people moving," he explains. "And if your love is techno, then that's totally cool. I'll still respect you. A bit!"

You can find DJ Able on Spotify. Track down the tunes with George's contributions. Repetitive? Maybe. In a good way.
